RESEARCH INTERESTS
Political Communication, Identity, Media Memory, Urban Communication
- My research focuses on how media practices shape identity, belonging, and memory in contemporary China, with attention to marginalized groups including LGBTQ communities, women, people with disabilities, older adults, and internal migrants.
- My Master’s thesis investigates how migrant second generation in Shenzhen negotiate identity and belonging through media memory on social platforms.
- More broadly, my research tends to explore the intersections of political communication, digital memory, and identity construction in the context of China’s rapid urban transformation.

The GPA Game: A Sociological Interpretation of College Students’ Pursuit of Grades from the Perspective of Alienation Theory | 2023
Role: Third Author
- Conducted in-depth interviews with 6 undergraduate students and produced a feature-style report based on their narratives.
- Transcribed and organized nearly 8,000 words of interview materials for systematic analysis.
- Completed an extensive literature review situating the study within alienation theory and higher education research.
Revisiting the Digital Closet: Privacy, Intimacy, and Identity Curation on a Chinese Gay Dating Platform | 2025
Role: Co-Author, Presenter at IAMCR
- Presented findings at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), Singapore, Jul 2025.
- Conducted two months of participatory observation on the Blued platform, focusing on user interactions and identity negotiations.
- Collected and analyzed 50 user profiles to examine symbolic practices of self-presentation and strategies for negotiating constraints.

Research on Prosocial Practices in the Everyday Life of A Women’s Online Communities | Oct 2020 – Feb 2024
- Analyzed 537 curated posts (260K+ words) from a Chinese social media platform using LDA modeling and Python-based word cloud visualization.
- Conducted textual analysis of 50 female-authored posts in NVivo 12, identifying three narrative categories: everyday practices, healing, and anti-violence.
- Revealed the community’s framework through discourse analysis, highlighting empathy-driven identity formation and pathways to offline empowerment.
Research on Disability Representation and Audience Engagement on a Chinese Social Video Platform | Dec 2023 – Feb 2024
- Designed and implemented a research framework examining digital inclusion of disabled populations over a two-year period.
- Analyzed 30 videos and 2,706 real-time comments using NVivo 12.
- Discovered frequent hostile remarks reinforcing pathologized disability perceptions in digital discourse and highlighted transient empathy fails to drive structural change, necessitating multi-level interventions.
Research on Community-Based Elder Care and Digital Back-feeding in Shandong Province | Jun 2021 – Sep 2021
- Coordinated a 10-member research team to deliver seven technology literacy workshops for older adults across four communities, serving 50+ participants.
- Co-developed the report framework by integrating theories of digital reciprocity with empirical community data.
- Identified skill gaps, disparities in cultural capital, and intergenerational power dynamics in aging societies; designed a community–university model for digital reciprocity.
Research on Hong Kong Labor Movement Reporting from a Media Perspective, 1940–1941: A Historical Review | Jun 2024 – Sep 2024
- Collected and examined archival newspapers and historical documents on Hong Kong’s labor movement during 1940–1941.
- Conducted discourse analysis to trace media narratives and political framing of labor activism.
- Produced a critical review highlighting the role of media in shaping historical perceptions of social movements.
